As I don't know what the old price is I can't really comment.

The renewal price would probably depend on how long you had the subscription.

The gift is free when compared to the current subscription price.

I think this is very fair.

Check the subscriptiopn price in the last magazine with the offer price with the free gift and the only difference is the £5 post and packing.

I doubt you will be paying more than £5 above your renewal price so you will be £25 gift minus £5 additional subscription charge = £20 in hand,

Sorry Jason, I missed the point of your post, but hopefully mine goes some way to explaining to others why teh free gift isn't an automatic give-away to existing subscribers…

One other query

Existing subscribers have been able to view the online digital archive even if only paying for the printed version.

If that existing subscriber cancels their sub and takes out a new "Print Only" to get the gift will they then loose that access to the digital archive, taking another £11 of the true value of the gift.

As a 'foreigner' who has taken a number of British magazines over the years I have always looked wistfully at the subscription gifts that many magazines offer as an enticement to subscribe or almost as often at the empty space on front covers with the explanation: "we apologise to our overseas readers, this gift is only available to residents of the British Isles".

So on behalf of myself and the other erstwhile second class citizens, a big thanks to DC! I look forward to renewing my subscription as soon as the code is published.

I don't know how the digital archive works for long term subscribers.

I have done my best to give you all a great offer.

I can't take everything into account.

You can of course buy the gift from Arc Euro Trade if you wish to keep any previous benefits you feel you might be missing out on if you resubscribe.

Really, the gift is for new subscribers rather than existing subscribers. However, as mentioned there are ways to manipulate the system in your favour.

From thew Archive Page, "We will also be honouring the access granted to Print Subscribers as part of the 'Complete Package' Subscription. This access will only be available until your subscription expires, and access to Print Subscribers will be totally withdrawn from July 2014."

Question from New Zealand.

I renewed my MEW subscription only about a month ago, and decided to renew it for 2 years. Wish now I had not done it quite so quickly but too late now. Such is life.

If I now want to get this gift can I renew my sub for another year beyond that and pay for the sub and postage for the gift, or will that not work that much in advance? Your advice appreciated.

My own personal take on the subscription renewal thing would be to have a discount for rest of world subs for renewals, rather than having to pay the same price for a renewal as for a new sub. Don't know how other overseas readers feel about this suggestion.

Typical for me. Was prompted to renew my subscrition about a month ago and did so thinking that subscription "presents" would never come my foreign (Sweden) way, sigh.

To cancel it now just to renew once again will be more trouble than useful, I am afraid.

Just extended my subscription by Phone – very easy and painless, they even asked which promotional code I wanted, so gave the code x228 and hopefully in 20 or so days will get the drill chuck.

I got as far as the credit card page with no sign that the gift was included, and was reticent to complete the details in case that was the end of the transaction and I missed out on the gift somehow
