      Gentlemen,

Can we all please except that when somebody has an opinion on a subject that it is all it is, this evening I've been reading some interesting subjects and watching some interesting video's and one gentleman made an opinion for which somebody else jumped down his throat. He said nothing wrong and to be honest he was correct in his views but just because it didnt match somebody elses view he got sarcasm thrown at him. There is no enjoyment if we have to read this so please stop it.

          Here here Martin,

Having recently been separated from the family home and workshop I read the forum for some sanity but I'm amazed at the recent childish comment on this forum!! I need inspiration no bitching, I could have stayed at home for that!!!!

          Regards

It sad that sometimes people feel the need to snipe or ridicule others on forums such as this. We come here to share our hobby and I come here to learn. I’m not a trained engineer but purely self taught in my own shop using machines I rebuilt myself with no help or advice from anyone. Work of which I am justly proud and happy to share. I did join a model engineering club but left after all the bitching and negativity made any visit a trial. I’m happier in my shop alone doing my own thing. So being able to come here and chat about engineering is great. So don’t spoil it by being sarcastic or snide or even offering a ‘professional opinion where one really isn’t needed.
Just be happy there are still folk out here enjoying getting oily and making stuff in their spare time. Regards TM

The old saying goes: "There is one in every crowd". It was the same in all of my workplaces. To be honest, I don't think it will ever go away. When I retired I joined a local seniors woodworking club. I was in the club twice and because of one individual who thought it was his personal club I quit going. I belong to several shooting clubs and fraternities, all of which have their share of crotchety members. Most times we just ignore them.

The missing piece of information: was his opinion on topic for the thread? It doesn't much matter how correct he is if it attempts to hijack a thread in favour of his particular soapbox. We've seen so much of that around here lately and some really good threads have been ruined. If his comment was on topic, I would agree with you. Otherwise …..

Nothing to stop him, of course, creating his own thread and expounding his views there where others can read or ignore them as is their wont.

The problem appears to be that it was a comment responding to other comments on the lack of H&S in the video about making a loco in WW2 that ended up in a similar thread, so it looked random instead of a response to a previous comment.

As that other thread was misplaced I have merged the two threads and the comment now appears in context.

I'm locking this as the points have been made.
