      Hi All.

I'm getting very advanced with my 5" LNER L1, so I'm wondering where I can turn to obtain a smokebox door number plate & shed plate. Ideally etched or machined.. I've been looking on the web but I havent found anyone out there.. what do you guys do for these??

      Thanks

      Del.

Agreed Diane's work is superb, I haven't yet ordered as I need to finalise the drawings for my royal Scots plates

I've etched my own (though for other purposes, not loco related) using the toner transfer method using a laser printer and cheap inkjet photo paper, and hydrochloric acid/hydrogen peroxide mix as an etchant. It leaves a really crisply defined edge with no undercutting. My main use for this was etching PCBs for audio development projects and prototyping, but it gives excellent results with sheet brass or copper.

There's a bit of a learning curve and maybe for a single model it would be more straightforward to buy from someone who's already set up. Diane's work looks excellent.

Luker's article in a recent ME was very good, no difficult to get hold of chemicals.

Ask at your local model engineering club, there is most probably someone there with a cnc mill who would make a couple for you.
