Emcomat 7 Miller – any good

Do you mean just the milling attachment that fitted onto the back of an Emcomat7? or an FB-1 or FB-2 type mill

Biggest downside is they are roundcolumn mills, capacity and accuracy of teh stand alone mill will be OK but the one on the lathe limited.

From sheer bitter experiance.

Do not go near any mill with a round turret especialy if you are planning a 7.25g loco. you will get whiplash no matter how hard you try to lock the turret.
A combo lathe is a waste of money I know bought a Warco one, The mill has been pushed to one side for at least 10 years.
I purchased a Chester 626 mill and built the DAG Brown "anna" a 7.25g Hunslet mainly on it.
I know it is extra dosh but for a loco of that size you need a lathe with a decent swing and a mill to cope with as the lady said put anything on the bed.

The speed problem is worse on the Emcomat7 unit as it only had a single speed motor so the lowest speed is a very fast 350rpm.

As Gray says the build quality is good I had an Emcomat8.6 for 20years.

Fizzy, I too like Grey have an FB2 , had it for 20 + years and its in daily use, smooth as silk and accurate coupled with incredible versatility. I am not familiar with the Emcomat 7 but these machines are superior to many of the far eastern imports, having said that these have improved dramaticaly over the later years and do represent good value for money.
