      Hi there!

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, first time I've posted.

Just recently acquired an Emco Unimat 3 from a friend, thought I'd start getting to know how to use a lathe (even if it is a bit cute, as far as lathes go). It looks rather like it's been in a shed for a good 10 years and so am starting a clean-up process. Hit a bit of a snag though, can't work out how to remove the main lead screw. I've checked the spare parts list, it's the bushing which seems to be stuck. I thought there would be a set screw holding it in place, but the screw is missing, and so I'm not even sure what's holding the bushing in place – rust??

If anyone owns or has experience with this lathe I'd be hugely grateful if I could get any pointers! Just thought I'd ask before I try anything stupid to get it out.

      Thanks

As you have worked out the M6 grubscrew (4mm key) that fits from the underside of the right hand lead screw bracket needs to be loosend and then the leadscrew will easily slide to the right. Make sure teh carrage is not locked to the bed as that will stop you pulling the leadscrew out.

If the screw is befinately not there then the bush must be stuck in some way, try a gentle tap on teh headstock end of the leadscrew to see if that will shift the bush.

I've not used mine for years but just went and undid the screw to make sure my thinking was right, slid out easily.

            Jason,

Thanks for the reply – suspicions confirmed. I'll give a gentle tap here and there, I think it's probably just rusted together.

            Cheers!
