      Hi,

I’m struggling to find a supplier in the UK who sells small amounts of Castrol Hyspin AWS 46 (EMCO recommended oil), I only need 1litre but most sellers only offer 20 litres or more.

I tried finding an equivalent, Mobil DTE 25 ultra which is a hydraulic oil and quite thin, my fear is it won’t protect the gears.

Any advice would be most welcome,

      Thanks

I keep other Castrol oils in my eBay shop ( I have AWS 68 ) but not this. I will ring my suppliers and see if I can get some as it may be worth stocking.

          Regards.

          David.

Try Smith and Allan in Darlington. If they don't have it they will likely have a suitable alternative.

Hyspin 46 is just a quality 46 weight hydraulic oil.

Google for 46 weight hydraulic oil and many options appear.

If your concerned check it meets DIN 51524 Part 2 which is what Hyspin is specified as.

Something like this: 5l on amazon should be fine .

Castrol hyspin aws is a range of hydraulic oils ! 46 is a medium hydraulic oil, it will be thin so it can easily run back into a bearing. AWS 32 is a SAE 10. AWS 46 MAYBE an SAE 30. For viscosity think of it as an old car engine oil, NOT an EP90 gear oil. A good motor factor may be able to help you. Witham oils or Morris oils will do it, or try an agricultural supplier ! Goog luck, Noel

PS 32 and 46 are ISO numbers

ATF(Automatic transmission Fluid) oil work very well for lathe gear boxes. The advantage of the AFT oils , is that they have buffers for acid and for alkalines as well. Can cope with lots of differing materials as well. It's also sold in 1l packs as well.
