And a side view. The 2 steel inserts are used here to correct for non-flatness of the saddle front and are not for mounting. I made a temperary fixture with a toolmakers clamp (here left away). The M8 lead screw is still fed into the adjustment nut and the saddle which does not work of course. But as long I am experimenting I do not want to destroy the original parts.

Sorry, I see. I have to find out how to do it well. It is the first time I am doing it.

Would it be possible to edit the original post and to upload pictures to the original posts?

                  .

Unfortunately, No [unless a Moderator does it]

We mortals only have a short time in which we can edit a post … after which, it is frozen.

Easiest option would be to create an album of the relevant images, and let us find it.

I made an ALBUM: “Emco Compact 5 anti-backlash nut”. I hope it works.

Perhaps a moderator is willing to repair the above damage I created.

Posting after I should have gone to bed after a bibulous evening was a mistake. Thanks Barrie for reminding me about Emcoshop re spares availability: I should have checked before posting. A bit of detective work, cross-checking numbers and availability between ProMachine Tools (www.emcomachinetools.co.uk) and Emcoshop reveals the following:

                        A5A 020 011 Saddle (A5A 050 020 appears to be the cross-slide)

A5A 021 010 Cross slide feedscrew bearing / mounting plate

                        A5A 000 091 Longitudinal leadscrew nut (adjustable)

                        Above available from Emcoshop

                        A5A 020 060 Cross-slide nut (adjustable)

Above apparently not available from Emcoshop, but is available from ProMachine Tools, who can also provide A5A 000 091

Also needed would be A5A 020 050, the adjuster / retaining nut for the cross-slide nut, not listed by either supplier, but could be made easily enough. As expected, the prices are depressing. Hope this helps.

                          What Kiwi says is right.

But with this modification you need also the new design lead screw and the new design cross slide. Both are longer than the old design from before 1985. This is to compensate for placing the anti-backlash more to the front. About the same position as in “my” design. I figured it out about 5 years ago and it would cost approx €500. For that price you could buy a complete second hand Emco C5. I try to solve it for a much lower price. In the mean time I bought a second bed + saddle + cross slide + top slide + automatic feed parts for €170. Not a bed deal in my opinion. This will be used to improve my lathe. The “old” parts are now available for my milling column for which I am still trying to solve the backlash problem.

A possible solution to solve the backlash problem would be a mini ballscrew as I said already before. I have added a drawing to the album “Emco Compact 5 anti-backlash nut”.

Looks like they are the DOS programming shortcut codes, the original Emco 2.8 program was DOS based.

The dimensions and other info in the TOOL column are Tool offsets and spindle speed for the tool..
The arrow indications show the direction of tool travel by using – (minus sign) and +
so – on the X axis puts a cut on, – on the Z axis moves the tool towards the chuck.

                                Hope this helps.

The Compact 5 cnc has an on-board computer which allows programs to be compiled within the the machine, no computer is required.

In it's standard form the 5PC is for operating from an external computer running an Emco DOS program.

                                              Which is it ?

As far as I am aware it is connected to an external computer so that would be the 5PC version.
