Elliott Victoria Turretmill TV1

I have just bought this smaller Elliott version of a Bridgeport vertical turret milling machine but strangely cannot find any info at all about it from the usual sources or google search. Can any members enlighten me with specs and/or their experience of it? I will post a pic. Adam

Doesn't seem to share much (if any) DNA with the Bridgeport family apart from being a vertical turret mill.

Seems to have power feed on the table. Looks nice enough – 30-36" table?

No i did not mean it shared DNA, but just that it is a vertical turret mill as is the Bridgeport , the Bridgeport to my mind being by far the most common of vertical turret mills, with head swivelling in 2 axis and in-out rack&pinion.

It is a bit smaller than a Bridgeport (hence the appeal to me) and the table is a bit smaller – I think 30-36" is a good estimate. Whether it is lighter than a Bridgeport is another question…

My BP J-head clone is almost exactly 1 tonne. Makes moving it quite challenging…

Yes I think looking at yours and mine and photos of the Bridgeports, and knowing that the Elliott large horizontal milling machines are over 1250 kgs , mine may also be heavier than I would like! And it does not have the nice lifting eye that the BP has (although I notice you did not use your lifting eye). How much did you pay your removals/installations company if you don't mind me asking?

This was part of moving my entire house and workshop back from Canada to Blighty. Everything had to fit into a 40' HC container. Obviously the workshop made it back in its entirety but I had to jettison stuff like the BBQ, Ikea tat furniture etc. It was a tight fit and the culmination of many weeks of packing – something like 300 boxes which I packed myself.

I don't have the breakdown of costs but the flatbed Hiab lorry and operators were part of the deal. They were seasoned machine movers and made that part of the operation a breeze. A great bunch of Scousers they were and they made me feel truly welcome home.

I used the lifting eye to get it back to the house (in Canada) and also when moving it about the garage. Both methods seem to be fine – simply depends on what's convenient in the circumstances.

I moved my old Victoria mill around on rollers and a bar, don't know how heavy it was but it was more than 1 tonne. Took a bit of doing but if you work slowly and carefully it's not a problem.

The Elliot milmor turret mill,and the Gate turret mill ,slight differences same company, with 50 inch tables both weigh 1750 kilos,the Elliot took a bit of shifting off a twin axle trailer with only a hand winch,rollers and a crowbar on my own.After 25 years I have just found a copy of the hand book,Elliot info is difficult to come by as they continually changed the machines,and they also owned ,Victoria,and Gate,and sometimes interchanged intercompany parts.And despite having the handbook there was no information on spindle bearing lubrication or adjustment,which I wanted ,assume it was greased for life,but how longs life now that its about 50 yrs old.

Oh dear well I hope the TV1 is nowhere near that weight Nigel! I think I will just have to lift off the head in slings and somehow try to get it back on after arrival. If it is that heavy, it is certainly going straight onto ebay!

I too have just acquired a very similar Elliott, a TV2 as it happens. I'm also lost for information. My best guess is it's an early version of the Elliott "Milmor" as shown on lathes.co.uk. but with the head of an "Omnimill"

Looks very similar to the TV1. I sold mine to a nice guy in Scotland who set about fixing the spindle bearings which were a bit sloppy, and did say that was a difficult job. However it fitted into his new wooden workshop nicely in the corner albeit with a small timber protrusion built outwards from the timber wall to accommodate the ram. Too long ago to find any photos or correspondence but he was delighted with it and it is a very handsome British monument!

You are right that the head is the same as the Omnimill, which came first? However the overarm is different as it looks like has the boss on the rear for a slotter.

I have just picked up an Elliott TV2 with slotter.
