      Good afternoon all,

I have just purchased an Elliott Supamill 10, i have the manual, but it does not say how much weight the table can hold, Does anyone have any suggestions or can help?

      thank you!

Welcome to the forum, Nick, I have looked in vain for the Super mill 10, but from the average of the Elliots, the table should take up to 50 kilos easily.

Thank you Old Mart, and thank you for your welcome.

it is a big machine, (same size as a bridgeport), so i know its sturdy but i dont want to risk putting too much weight on it! My rotary table and dividing head are not going to be a problem then! (Less than 50kg) and i dont do real heavy work.. i find it odd the manual did not say its limitations!

            thank you again!

If it's like a Bridgeport in size then it would be reasonable to compare the safe table load of a Bridgeport, which is apparently 750lb/340kg according to google.

Is that one of the newer ones, with the square rather than dovetail ways, just before they changed the name to Gate? I think the limiting factor is the knee nut wear and how stiff it gets with a high load. You might help it out by contriving a compressed air cylinder to take up some of the load.

It also may depend on how the load is distributed? How do you think you might possibly overload it?

Realistically with any Bridgeport equivalent mill the table can easily take the weight of anything you can manually lift on to it with a decent margin for tooling.

I've never gotten my Bridgeport loaded up to the point where the lift screw becomes significantly harder to turn. And its had some pretty hefty stuff on it!

My Elliott Milmor (turret mill)took a 33 inch dia 6 spoke stationary engine flywheel weighing around 2 cwt and a Blackstone engine cast iron base tank, which took three of us to lift it onto the table with no problem, I bored the flywheel out to a larger size to fit a sleeve and again had no problems, there was no effect from these loads on the mill.

Thank you for all of your responses.

Clive/Nigel, i think the weights i will be using are quite safe! (Doubtful i will ever go over 100kg).

Bazyle, its one with dovetails and the knee is motorised, but can also be operated with a handle.

Not Done It Yet, The table is 50 inches, so clamping and placement should be good for my modelling needs!

seems extreme for such a large machine, when i mostly do odds and ends, 7 1/4 gauge railway, and Mk1 Mini restoration work, but i had a small Warco, but that was too small, then this elliott is available, close to home and a good price, so hard to refuse!
