I've set this up in liaison with Phil Grant who is preparing photos and notes to detail his conversion and for anyone else to add there builds and for any help we can give to each other. such as sourcing parts, resolving problems etc.

It'll be great to see all come together on this, everyone is welcome smiley

I have my board running for a metric lead screw. My next task is working out a way to fit a stepper neatly to my Prazimat DLZ180. For me, that is going to be the hard part and may take a long time. I would prefer to fit it at the headstock end rather than behind the bed at the tailstock end. After watching Jon Bryan on You Tube I am concerned about the size of stepper to use. I do have a NEMA23 3NM which will have to run with an overall gear ratio of 4 to 1, if I can shoe horn it in at the headstock end.

I would like to hear if anyone else with a Prazimat DLZ intends to fit this or Jon Bryan's ELS.

            Paul.

I'm trying to avoid the double whammy of exorbitant shipping from the USA and the import charges. Has anyone found a source for the TI board in the UK or elsewhere in EU?

I bought two boards from Mouser. Buying two pushed my purchase over the free shipping threshold and that made quite a difference to the price paid per board. It was the cheapest way I could find to buy them. They were posted to me from the USA, but arrived within a week as far as I remember. It was a few months ago.

Bought mine through Mouser UK with some more bits for free shipping and then tracked it from ,I think, Texas but no import charges!

Came through in less than a week.

I found the cheapest option was fro TI themselves, it came from Germany but the postage was cheaper than Mouser or Digikey.

                              Hi,

I have the alias "Neophyte" down on my list for a PCB, do you already have one, I may have you down twice, once under your real name. I have sent a PM to Neophyte but it's been unread for a while.

I am not at all used to using this site yet.

Yes please, I would like one of your boards.

I will search for your PM.

                                Sorry for any confusion.

Time to get the encoder, but a couple of important questions…..

1). Does it need to be incremental or absolute

2). pnp, npn,  or open collector *2 output., which I think is best as it gives A and B with not A and Not B which I think will give the 4 times count so that a nominal 1000 pulse can be increased close to the cough42 ( 4092(?). The exact pulse count is set within the setup of the software

I will be ordering from China which has a long lead time, or the cost is at least 4 times greater

                                  edit.. syntax

                                                Phil,

UK delivery yes, but don't be surprised if it's shipped from China.

Generally, I find that if the sellers address, towards the bottom of the eBay page on the left hand side, is in China, that is where the item is likely to be posted from. I have been caught out many times like this. Sometimes the items arrive on time, but mostly they don't. I am waiting for bevel gears and a few other things at the moment that were supposedly posted from UK stock. Two weeks overdue so far.

                                                Paul.

Sometimes they have stuff sent from China, keep it in stock and then put a UK postage label on it to send out but if they have non left they don't tell you but just wait for it to come from China.

                                                  Very frustrating!

You can change the pulse count because clough42 gives the information in the video about getting the software he rings two important bits of data, the no of pulses and the tpi ( pitch in metric I seem to remember). Only viewed it once

Ah… there’s two postings unseen on this page!

                                                      Hi Roy

Between my other large list of other jobs I'm in the process of fitting one to my S7.

I'm trying very hard to squeeze the stepper motor into the change gear casing at the LH end of the machine.
