Just curious – in the UK, does eBay add sales taxes for used items from private sellers these days?

They are apparently doing this in Canada now.

The main UK sales tax is Value Added Tax ((VAT), and as far as I know, this tax is not payable on sales by private individuals

They do if you sell into the EU.
Not only do they charge the buyer VAT, they charge you an "international sale" fee and to add insult to injury they charge you sellers fees for on the VAT they took off hte buyer….

Apparently eBay have been doing this for all sales within Canada for 6 months I just discovered.

              This pretty much covers it.

As far as I can tell, they only tax purchases that are wholly (buyer and seller) within Canada. Purchasing from a seller outside the country doesn't attract tax.
