Eagle Oil Can

I've not been happy with the commercial oil cans that are available, even the expensive Railing can the handle bends easy it takes ages to prime and soon loses its prime. So I desided to make my own I came across the American Eagle design that I liked the look of the plunger was very direct and it lends itself for any easy and quick project, so far I've been very happy with how its work, first time action no leeks good capacity.

I've rejoined hobby-machinist and downloaded the pdf.

Going to make 3 of the oilers, (finally making use of a column of a cheapo pillar drill).

The plans centre around a 2" tube, so I've just got to scale the plans down a bit, (I bored the column to 43mm bore).

Looking forward to making them!

How does the air enter the can when the oil goes out to avoid negative pressure inside the can?

I actually made two the first a fitted a seal to the lid and drilled a small air hole in it, for the second I thought what the point of sealing the lid only to drill a hole in it so I did away with with the seal, and the small hole and just let it leak, both work equally well.

Hi all,

don't laugh but over here I have to dye my other 1/2's hair…..

the hair products are contained in a plastic squeezy bottles 4' and 6" tall and 1 1/2" dia…….works for me……given up on all oil cans but have a few v/old'uns on a shelf….so I store em in ice cream buckets, 1 with Diesel fuel, engine oil, gearbox oil and chainsaw chain oil………the Diesel fuel is used for soaking seized items and washing down the mess after cleaning the swarf on the mill and drill tables….I keep several buckets all over the place so as there is always some oil product to hand……even use the bottles to deliver small amounts of coolant when useing the drill press….. ………best of all they are free and come with "Brownie points"……….hahaha……..
