We [of course] will already be conversant with the engineering principles, but I think it worth sharing this video by ‘A Canadian Woodworker’… He thought-it-through for himself and gives a good demonstration of how and why.

I watched this a few weeks ago. Good video. It looks like the same principle as the Eccentric Engineering Turnado gismo.

          regards

            Oldiron,

Yes, the Turnado looks very interesting.

I found this 18 min video by the inventor …. The Turnado Freehand Metal Turning System https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs8XZ8X1I-g The whole 'system' was about Aus$400 in 2019…. not sure what it costs these days.

              .

… except that the Turnado is only ‘single storey’ and therefore would require some adaptation before it could do copying like this.

The first 30 seconds shows the principle. You could just make a 2D template to put on the bed of the Turnado and attach a pointer to the cutter block.

Yes … That is why I wrote the opening post the way I did < sigh >

It wasn’t about how we [with prior engineering knowledge] might do the job … it was to rejoice in the fact that someone had (a) explored the problem for himself, and (b) had created a decent video to explain and demonstrate.

                  .

                  … perhaps [yet again] I shouldn’t have bothered !

Don't worry Michael; I appreciated the video.

Once again, us Canadians show the world how it's done. And, not in simple 2D, but in full colour (yes we spell it that way in the frozen north) 3D!

Yes, an interesting find, well thought out.

He has either accidently or knowingly "duplicated" the method used on industrial hydraulic copy lathes, (for wood), as seen in this ;-

                        Mark.
