Hi, does anyone know what chuck thread sizes are used on Dremels and other popular rotary multitools?

My Vonhaus has an M8x0.75 thread which means my Dremel bits such as the square drive for a flexi shaft doesn't fit. But looking on eBay it seems some Dremels have the same M8 size, others don't. Does anyone know what the main sizes are and where they are used?

I suspect that they have changed to metric [‘though don’t know when]

But here’s Wikipedia’s image of what was : **LINK**

Hi Philip, I've just measured my 395 model and it is 7.1mm by 40TPI, which looks like it is 9/32" x 40TPI. which is close to MichaelG's link.

            Regards Nick.

I believe Michael is right as my dad's old Dremel has the spindle thread he refers to. My own and much newer Asian made Dremel clone has the thread mentioned by Philip.

                Hi Phillip,

My Dremel 3 jaw chuck (a good 15 years old) has an M8 x 0.75 thread. I bought a corresponding die and made an arbor so I could use it in my drill press.

                Hope this is of use?

My old Dremel had the 9/32" 40 TPI thread, the two much cheaper clones I bought since that one went phut both have an 8mm x .75 thread. Chucks are available in this size too. e.g. **LINK**
