Thanks for getting us back on track Mac. I keep thinkling of trying a Eureka, but to be honest although single-point cutters are slow, I think the effort to make a twelve-tooth cutter even with Eureka could take more time than just being patient witha simple cutter.

That said I have some 1 1/2" silver steel ready to make the cutters, but no big bars of EN8…

I had only previously sen the description and drawing's in Ivan Law's book – interesting to read Prof. Chaddock's constructional advice, especially on the cam.

          Thanks for all the help.

Like Neil, I had only seen the description in Ivan Laws book but unfortunately ? I am drawn to things that work in mysterious ways

Can't say I can justify making one, but I will, just to scratch the itch.

          Cheers,

          Ruaidhrí

You will find it most interesting to make. It took me a while to suss out exactly where the 4 centre holes go. In the end I faced off the ends and drew them in. Mine is made all in EN3a. When I use it I give it a large dollop of grease, after all it is only turning at about 100rpm.

When I went to make my first cutter I realised that the longest bit is making the blanks, so I made a load of blanks and cut the clearance grooves. They only need to be faced off to the required thickness.

I suppose you could mill the ggrooves along a bars of silver steel, bore out the centre and bandsaw off a load of blanks.

Now I need to look up the "Amazing Get Murphy Off His A… Device" which, coupled with a decent winch, should get me moving blush

                Regards,

Did anyone archive the yahoo group links above? Interested in both the links, files and improvements. Sorry to open a 10 year old topic.
