Saw this in the new Machine Mart catalogue but after searching still not really sure what blades it will sharpen.

I have one of the metal cut off saws, slow speed type, with a HSS 9" or so blade with 80-90 small teeth. Will it sharpen one of there blades? Anyone tried? It needs the blade to be indexed around one tooth at a time so each tooth gets an identical sharpen, depth, angle etc. It is this that I can't confirm or deny. Not expecting it to automatically index around, but it does need to be same depth on each tooth.

Can buy it cheaper than from MM!

      Thanks.

          See:

          https://www.drapertools.com/product/98486/230v-draper-storm-force-circular-saw-blade-sharpener-110w/

Downloadable parts list but no manual.

The dimensions of the supplied wheels are legible in the photos, so that will tell you the gullet into which they will reach (rim of ceramic one appears to be tapered).

Many saw blades have teeth that are sharpened alternately so if you index one tooth at a time, results might be poor.

By the time you get to the last tooth, the wheel will have worn down so it will remove less material. So you have to go around again.

Price up the cost of the cost of the machine against sending the blade to thesawcentre in Glasgow for professional attention.

Just examined the entry. It does say the £130 Draper will sharpen both TCT and steel blades (different wheels), 90-400mm dia. Also see the Sealy equivalent for £144.

Indexing is by a pointer engaging a tooth, so the blade is self-indexing though stepped manually; and once set the grinding geometry repeats for each tooth. As on any tool-&-cutter grinder (in effect this is a specialised one of those).

Your metal-saw's blade diameter is within range, and if the grinding-wheel appropriate for the blade material fits the gullet there seems no reason why not, but the difficulty might be the tooth shapes.

Best thing might be to find someone who owns one of these and ask about its adjustments. Or contact the manufacturers!

This item seems to be branded for various retailers. I have one which was sold as a return for about half the new price. It is really only suitable for wood blades, though it does comes with a diamond blade for carbide, and a stone for steel.

It is only suitable to grind the radial faces, and the indexing is not good enough to control the depth of cut to be the same for each tooth. In use, it just gets you to the next tooth. It is then a case of feeding each tooth against the wheel by hand until you judge it is sharp. However, this does work well enough for wood blades, and they then cut pretty well as new. Most wood blades need different angles for odd and even teeth, so you need to mark every second tooth unless you have phenomenal concentration. I have used it for blades from less than 100mm to 220mm, and it can probably sharpen a somewhat greater range than that. It did need a bit of fettling for best results.

If that suits your requirements then it is adequate provided you do not pay too much, but forget any use for accurate sharpening of blades for metal.
