      Hello all.

I recently bought a "Magnetic Stand Square" and have doubts about the usefulness of some parts of it.

The rod B has a hole in the side wjhere a screw is visible to eventualy (I think…) suport a DTI.

So, related to the above picture, i have the following questions:

      What's the utility and how/where can I clamp the item B ?

What's the purpose of the clamp (is it a clamp?) A?

If the B rod is to be clamped by A what's the purpose?

The rod B can not be clamped in the top clamp with a small dovetail unless I decide to deform it.

      Thanks in advance

      Dias Costa

A is not to hold the rod B. A is to fineadjusting the DTI and get the pointer at zero before measuring on the workpiece. The rod maybe not right part for the magnetic square stand since it will not fit to the clamp.

You have a missing part the gauge which has a rod in the back of it to be inserted into "B" where the knurled bolt is and tightened up.. "B" can be inserted into the top or bottom of "A" and tightened up once again by the knurled bolt.

Hi dcosta, I agree with Jens Eirik Skogstad, I have a similar one and the rod fits the hole in the top clamp. The top clamp will accept a dovetail on it's end instead of using the rod.

Bob, I don't beleive dcosta has anything missing from his one, as it has all the same bits as mine.

              Regards Nick.

Ageed – it's confusing becuase the top and bottom 'clamps' look so similar but tehy have entirely different purposes.

The dovetail is a fitting that matches a fitting on some makes of DTI.

                  Amazing isn't it ?

                    Try 7…

I have got an identical set up…with the DTI that fits in the dovetail.

Part B does not fit anywhere, it is smaller than the holes in the clamps.

I have also got a small dovetail clamp that fits to B, but what is the use when B doesn't fit anywhere?

As a DTI holder mounted in the dovetail though it is worth the money I paid for it.

                    Andy

                      Hello all.

Thanks to all who contributed their views.

The B rod to be used in the top clamp with dovetail will force the spring effect of the clamp and with time will deform it, so I'll stick with the dovetail clamping.

                      Best regards
