"My alternative solution worked, but did not use a feature that he had deliberately built into the tooling."

So it was pilot error rather than an actual problem with the tooling then. I am curious what the "alternative solution" was though.

I use these tools on both my lathes and find they are very easy to set up, and do exactly as promised.

One thing I learnt watching Gary's video at the show was how to twist the tool bit 90° and use it to give a very fine "shearing" cut on one side.

It would also help if following posters separated their additions and did not add to the quoted section. Sometimes very misleading, always necessary to sort out where the quote ends and the reply starts, and finally it is posting the member’s post as an adulterated quote.

If the forum got rid of the stupid formatting down the left hand side it would help us all. Then all we need to do is leave a couple of blank lines before commenting. I am on many forums and this is the only one I know of with this format.

          regards

It is what it is. No reason to add to other people’s quotes which then might get requoted ad nauseum.

My objective in posting was to highlight the fact that having had a problem, Gary at Eccentric Engineering helped me to solve it.

My "alternative solution" was to grind the toolbit so that the radiused corner was no longer the cutting edge, i e a true diamond tool. This cured the problem with the original set up, but meant that I was effectively cutting a shallow 454 tpi thread. of unusual form. (If you think about it, all feeds produce a helical cut; regular if using power feed, more irregular if hand fed)

It is easy to complain about a supplier who provides poor service or back up; but those who support their product and the end user, often "going the extra mile", do deserve praise.

I am sure the webmaster could stop the formatting at the bottom of the quote sequence.

Just to show you can type above a quote – see below for how.

Err… the forum automatically inserts a blank line at the bottom, just like you are asking for, I'm typing on it now.

If you accidentally delete it or want to type above the quote, hover with the mouse and a red 'return' box will appear, click it and you get a blank line added above or below as appropriate.

You will also see that I edited the post in question to separate quoted test from comment in the same way Neil describes, just like the problem with the cutter it's a user issue not the tool/machine/software.

Thank you Neil & Jasonb for pointing out the correct way to enter text after a quoted post.

I must admit that I had never seen the redline before, I had always just hit return below the quoted text to start a new line.

                      regards

That would be the next ME/MEW show would it?

It isn't the 26th one at Doncaster Racecourse, since it started at Donnington…

                                Err it started at Harrogate.

The one at Donnington was at kenilwirth before that and had aprevious home and is now at foss wayj.

I was sober when I made that post, that must've been the problem!

Am I allowed to say that both Harrogate and Donnington seemed better than Doncaster and Fosse Way(between Radford Semele and Ufton)?

Might be that I was a few years younger though. On the other hand, I actually had a chat with Prof Chaddock at the ME exhibition when it moved to Seymour Hall in 1968. That made it the best exhibition I've ever attended. I was not quite ten at the time!
