Since the expo at Sandown ground to a halt some years ago crying (my wife loved going there) we have just stuck with the Midlands show at the Fosse Way simply because its not so far from us in North Bucks.

However, this year I have bought tickets for the Doncaster ME "do" and we'll stop a few days and explore the Peak District as well.

So, for those who have been to both events in the past how do the two compare?

I would say the Doncaster show has more variety and is a bigger show, the obvious car park opposite the racecourse I have never succeeded I getting in but there is near unlimited parking in thecarpark just up the road on the racecourse side of the road. I stay at the Castleford Xscape/Junction 32 outlet complex which entertains my wife while I pop down to the show. We stay a few days and find plenty to do.

Does anyone know if there is facility for overnight parking with a motorhome on the show site ?
            No services required.

Rik, I've never been to the Midlands show so can't comment on that but I did do a photo walk thro of the 2018 Doncaster show that may give you some idea what to expect :-

I'm.hoping to.exhibit at Doncaster again this year, I prefer it to its previous home at Harrogate.

There is a lot more space and the event seems better organised, the venue is very well laid out and staffed.

Cant comment about sandown but Donny is well worth a visit.

And there is a lot more locally than the peak District (which I love dearly).

Conisborough castle, Wentworth woodhouse (largest private house in the UK), Yorkshire sculpture park (free but pay for parking), National coal mining museum, Elsecar heritage centre and steam railway, Wortley top forge where railway axles were forged by water power (also has a model steam railway club on site) Kelham island industrial museum in Sheffield.

Just a few of my favourite places on mybdoorstep.

Sorry, TDLW has just reminded that there are also several "Shopping" destinations in the locality such as White rose way in Donny, Meadowhall and if you do fancy a country walk there is Fox valley, which is close to Wortley top forge and Langsett reservoir which has a wonderful outdoor centre and circular walks (and it was the site of Tank gunnery training in the second war).

Better ser aside a bit more time for sight seeing….

Don’t forget Markham Grange steam museum and garden center just up the road also, many engines with some in steam.

Leeds, country’s third biggest city half an hour away for swmbo to empty your wallet, plus Armley industrial museum.

Coast and the Dales nearby, in “gods own county”, centrally placed in UK so easier access than the Sandown show, went to Sandown a few years ago and was disappointed.

Lots of useful pointers chaps – thank you. We have only booked for two nights at our hotel near Bakewell so will fit in whatever time allows.

Doncaster seems to be a bigger show than The Fosse, but seems less crowded, because the aisles are wider so that you can move around more easily.

The car park is on the opposite side of the road from the racecourse, and disabled parking is available close to the entrance.

Looking forward to going again this year.

We went last year and it was a great day out. Definitely bigger than the Fosse. A lot of activity outside, road steam vehicles, model aircraft flying and amazing model helicopters. Turbo Jet demonstration (bl**dy noisy). Disabled parking right outside main entrance. Room to sit down and have a cup of tea and bite to eat. Some really superb models and engines on show. The only fault I found was that very few model engines were actually running!!! there is power in the hall why didn't clubs run a small compressor?? A great day out well worth the entrance cost.. Looking forward to the show on the Sunday but surprised to be told when making a purchase this afternoon that WARCO will not have a stand this year. sad

That is a First time! And not a good one. Just shows how the economy has altered.

Going on the Friday, with another Club member

Might be a sign of the times, but it will not get better for exhibitors such as Warco when they spend time talking to old mates instead of bothering with customers wanting to spend money with them.

Too many retailers have thought that the customer will always be there to wait for them, today the world has changed as many have found when the customer has gone to someone who will pay attention to them and provide good service.

I spent my money a couple of stalls down, who had the time for me, and goods that I wanted.

Guess who now gets first chance when I am in the market?
