This is a fine example of one of these………..But what is it?

 

This has had a group of engineers and model makers confounded for some time, so if anyone can shed some light on it as to its use it would be greatly appreciated.

Strangely enough, whilst waiting for my posting to appear I found the same flyer (I can't understand how I missed on previous searches). Even so many thanks for your efforts.

Michael, it only looks like the bending vice is a left hooker, could it just have been the last operator turned the vice around to suit him?

I was hoping to see a pseudo-technical discussion about water going down the plug'ole [and con-rods bending] the other way in the Southern Hemisphere.

If you are right handed, you would want to manipulate the alignment of the con rod in the fixture with your best hand, tightened the vice to nip is easy with the left hand. Thereafter change hands!

I can use both hands so I do not care either way.

I thought I'd seen something similar, one of my old books, "Motor Repair and Qverhauling" vol 1, Gen editor E. Molloy, shows a similar tool by Buck and Hickman Ltd.

If it was a V8, would the left hand bank conrods bend the opposite way from the right hand?

Some more photos would be nice, thanks. INterested to see how the mechanism at the far end works in a bit more detail, and also what the gizmos on the sides do, exactly. Perhaps for taking twist out of the rod?

Bit at the top looks nothing more than two fingers to ctr the rod and a stop

I would think you measure it as shown in the leaflet, flip it over and note any difference in readings and then tweak (technical term) it until you get the same readings either way up.

If it rocks on the machined top of the "V" then you have also got some twist to take out.
