Hi, does anyone know where you can get information regarding the DIN standards quoted by many suppliers without paying a fortune to down load them?
I am interested in buying a chuck and some ER collets and lots of suppliers quote DIN ???? but this is of no use unless it is quantified as to the expected performance e.g maximum TIR in this case.

Come on suppliers lets have the full info and not some spurious numbers that mean nothing without being quantified.

Your main library should have them.

Why not ask the supplier what the TIR is ?

Will try the library–thanks John good idea.
Asked suppliers but few are forthcoming with the info–maybe they don’t know!

The only people who will conform to DIN standards are the manufacturers.
Suppliers only pass on what they receive from the manufacturer and thereby quote DIN standards passed to them.
They probably do not even know what they mean.
The DIN ‘Norm’ is a very large volume indeed and covers every screw thread and finish possible so that the makers can create a commonality products.
Materials and composition are all listed.
Dimensions of tooling and anything connected. Tolereances are listed.
It is an excellent reference but I only ever referred to it a few times in ten years.
The fact that a manufacturer quotes his product to DIN standard should be enough for a purchaser to have confidence in that product.
Mainly European manufacturers, but I doubt Chinese or other manufacturers will use it.
If a product is found faulty then the recourse is through the supplier and normally it will be replaced.

                Hi John

Try this found by a simple ‘Google’ search on ‘ER Collet DIN standard’

                Google result

This gives the run out information you are looking for but is not the complete DIN 5499.

The German DIN standards are being replaced by the ISO standards as are ANSI and BSI.  The aim is for the ISO to become the international standard accepted Globally. These specifications cover many things with each having their own unique number.

Hope this helps – Regards – Pat
