Been having an issue with producing a 4BA thread on Bronze rod.
First die was a very old CS, this required tightening the die to cut to size. Produced curls of swarf like it should This expired after 9" by stripping any new thread.
Second die, brand new CS cuts so much under size that it jumps threads. The die (out of the holder) goes nicely onto a machine made steel screw with no attempt to cut and very little slack. The steel screw fits the brass nuts properly that the bronze rod jumps on.
Opening the die as far as it will go makes little difference. The die does lie loose in the holder with the screws backed off.
What's the fix please? I can't waste any more bronze rod
