I saw one of these on special offer in Screwfix a year or two ago so I bought one as it was “bound to come in handy”. Two years later and I’ve finally found a use for it to house some tools. I noticed online that some of these Dewalt cases are waterproof and given an IP rating whilst others don’t. Curiously they are the same price!? Obviously the one I bought is not waterproof 🙄 but I did notice they both seem to have the same construction. Mine is just missing the rubber seal. According to some chat online this deficiency is easily rectified by adding some neoprene sponge O ring cord which I’ve duly ordered. It seems a bit odd to me to offer 2 virtually identical products apart from a simple seal?

Vic, same reason I bought two, one is used for SS screws the other awaiting a use !  But i wasn’t aware of the weather proof part so I’ll check mine tomorrow — thanks for the heads up

I’ll let you know if the size I bought works ok. The slot is under 5mm wide so I bought some 5mm cord. Some have said though that 6mm is the size to use, we’ll see.

The cord arrived today and I don’t know if there’s a misunderstanding about the size but the stuff received seems to be 1/4”. Slightly odd as the supplier only lists metric sizes. On the principle of working with what you have I fitted the cord in the slot – quite tight but doable. The lid closes without difficulty so I count that as a win. I’m not sure it’s water proof but rather weather resistant. For keeping moisture out to prevent rusting I’m sure it will do the job though. If I need any more of these boxes I’ll seek out the IP rated ones.
