      Hi all,

I have a 1986 Triac, it has the Easy Change tool holder with "R8" written on the side. Is it possible to remove the Easy Change tool holder from the spindle or is it integral? I have removed the bolt/drawbar a few threads and given the bolt a few taps but there doesn't seem to be any movement of the tool holder. It is likely that no one has tried this since the machine was manufactured however, and it may be a touch tight!

      Any help appreciated, thanks

This document from the Denford forum includes an illustrated parts list for Triac.

Many thanks for the link David, those diagrams clearly show a standard R8 taper which indicates the tool holder should tap loose. However the plot thickens as the Triac Series User Manual states the tool holder is "permanently attached to the spindle".

What I think it means is that the Easychange holder is left in the spindle and you then have chucks with a quick-release taper that clip into the holder. My Novamill has a BT30 spindle taper and an Easychange holder that fits in that – then it came with 2 ER16 collet chucks.

In practice the Easychange holder eats too much daylight and the chucks with the proprietary clip-in taper cost ££££! So I hardly ever use the Easychange system, I got a couple of BT30/ER16 chucks off eBay, but seldom change tool by having them preset in a another chuck. If there's a drawbar it indicates the holder should be removable, sounds like it's been left in and has seized a bit.

                Hi,

I had a triac with the r8 taper and the easychange holder does come out as you suspect..

                Regards

                David.

Hi John, you are indeed correct. I have just got back from the workshop and a firm tap with a hammer released the tool holder. I was hoping it was removable for exactly the reasons you outlined! Many thanks for the replies

                      It's a shame it wasn't a useful native taper
