        MisTakEs

I am an expert at PHD level.

Hopefully one day I will make less of them.

        Regards
        John

The grammar nazis would have it that you would make fewer mistakes if you didn't use less in conjunction with something that only comes in whole units. Fewer mistakes but less sand for instance. I don't really care as long as it is clear and unambiguous.

Jim has been in touch, circumstances mean he hasn't been in a position to post recently. He says:

The reasons for the posting were (1) the wrist watch (very obvious out of the picture’s setting (2) It seemed to me that the lathe operator had been photoshopped onto a magazine cover very reminding of pre-war Practical Mechanics(3) lack of guarding on the lathe and other H&S topics. It just struck me as interesting.

He also suggests that some posters need to lighten up

Now you're pulling our legs! And Chrome bumpers were once as common as muck over here.

You might like to spend a penny before we unleash the dreaded Britishisms…

Are you comparing Chromium the element, with chrome plating which is hardly the same thing. Nor is it particularly simple.

The trouble with belt guards on old lathes is they make it too hard to get your hands into the belts and pulleys.

Mick: With respect, it proves that model engineers are not one-subject nerds, but intelligent people who enjoy discussions on a wide variety of subjects. And long may it continue……

Yes, we can be pedantic on just about any topic whether it is correct pitches for DP worms allowing for the helix angle or the role of the preposition in 19th century English. True renaissance men to a tee.
