Default to last posting setting

A few days ago I posted a "misdirected" comment (I replied to a four or so year old comment) on "Aircraft General Discussion" because my account settings "thread start page" box was set to "default to first". Since then I have tried switching it to "default to last" without success. Although it indicates that that is setting and I have clicked "update preferences" nothing changes.

You have to be logged in for the prefrences to work. Is that the issue?
