My aerosol can of Rocol slideway lubricant having expired I got 1 Litre of Rock slideway oil. I then bought a 'Silverline' 250cc oilgun with a trigger operated pump.

Operating the trigger applies an uncontrolled amount of lubricant in too many places at the same time! The trigger pushes on a large diameter piston and by the time the trigger is squeezed just hard enough to overcome the 'sticktion' its too late. I find it impossible to get just a small amount out of the nozzle.

I want to apply the oil via ball type oilers as well as direct on to slide surfaces. It seems to me that what is needed is something which has high pressure but a low flowrate.

Can anyone recommend a good quality device please?

          Hi Ian,

Over the years, I have tried a number of different oil cans with a screw top and a handle and pump lever mounted on top. Nearly all painted red, some had the proud manufacturers name on them. The tops all leaked profusely, dripping oil everywhere, like makers held shares in oil companies! Also got another type, similar to above but no handle – hold tank, which is just as bad. Proud? they should all be deeply ashamed of their rubbish products.

Then I bought a "Reilang." Wow! expensive but so is "Myford" oil if its wasted by the cheaper types of oil can. Reilang has not yet spilt a drop. Very satisfied customer. Available from Blackgates Engrg, Reeves and possibly others.

Yes, Reilang from Blackgates. There is a choice of two sizes, I think.

Reilang without a doubt. Look on Ebay – you can get them second hand for £10 to £20.

A Reilang oilcan I bought on eBay arrived this morning. I can see now why it was the one recommended. I have not put any oil in it yet but its quality and fitness for purpose were apparent as soon as I picked it up.

Thanks to all that gave me the tip.

                  Off to the workshop now.

Now THIS is what I call a real oilcan!

And yes it's a real one, not a modern replica!

Has anyone ever made thier own ?

Maybe make the pump and spout unit but use the can from a cheapie or an old unit ?

                      Now there's a project !

Looking at the pic. of the Reilang oil-can I realised I have one. Well similar, I bought it about 45 years ago, made in East Europe I think, quite cheap at the time and still in daily use.

I work for the company that used to make the K oilcans, including the now ridiculously-priced Meccano one! Sadly, some buffoon of a Works manager decided to throw all the drawings away. Didn't trouble to ask anybody in the drawing office about it – just chucked them all on a bonfire. There are still a few of the oilcans in use knocking about the company – and a gold-plated one on the MD's desk.

Another vote for the Reilang – lovely piece of kit. Wish I could justify buying a couple more.

How do I get rid of the annoying adverts on the right hand side – right in the middle of the forum posts?

Yes John A those adverts used to be at the side blockiing part of the post now they have moved more to the middle..

There has been so many complaints about them is nothing going to be done about them?

Is it a problem with my computer set up or the site at fault?

I think Merlin was wrong in saying 2 sizes of Reilangs – I am fairly certain that there are 3.

I saw a batch on a stand @ recent MEX which appeared to be very poorly finished. I am wondering whether that trader thinks theyre being `smart` and getting a cheap Chinese version to sell @ normal price for extra profit. If I am right, they will soon `slip up`!

                                        Gray,

"Hallbauer F60/2 was obtianed for about £7" – I am very interested in this info. Where from please?

What viscosity oil do you use in this? In my case it will be used for a Myford Super 7 with 32 and 68 weight oils.

The news that one can be obtained at that price and hasn't leaked in that long is very welcome given the price of the other ones you have to go to to get something that won't leak.

                                        Stephen S.

I hace had a Wesco Oil can for 40 years still going strong, and as regards an oil gun the one supplied with my Maximat Super 11 in 1986 has just expired, a replacement Hallbauer F60/2 was obtianed for about £7. They are supplied to lubricate chain saws, and in the 26 years I have owned these they have never leaked.

                                          Gray,

According to Hallbauer the F60/2 is a grease gun?

                                          graham.
