I have the sad task of announcing the death of a former member of the forum, namely John 'Bogstandard' Moore, who passed away early Monday morning.

I am sure many members will remember John as a top class engineer who could offer good advice, but who could also speak out in plane language against those who he thought were offering bad advice, a trait which did not make him too many friends.

He was however, one of the most generous men i have ever met, and was more than willing to help out anyone with any problems they may have had.

R.I.P. John, a top class man and a good friend.

A sad, but not unexpected, loss.

John had not been well for many years but soldiered on as long as he was able. One of my early modelling adventures was his Paddleduck design from which I learnt a tremendous amount, not just in the way engines work but also in how to think through construction methods. Thank you John.

I've only just spotted this thread, and sorry to see the news, though far from unexpected.

I only ever met John during his great workshop clearance, when quite a bit of his kit moved to my own workshop over in Buxton. I do somehow feel I won't be able to do it justice, though it's all be useful so far; 35 years with a lathe and I still have still much to learn.

He struck me as a genuine, and quite generous guy, both with his time and knowledge; as Dek said above, I guess he could be quite forthright in the way he expressed his views.

I'm sure he will be missed by many, me included.

Very sad new. Blogwich was outspoken and didn't take fools gladly, but he was helpful and respectful when treated properly. He took a realistic view of model engineering not concerned with the finest tolerances etc and I saw him mock those who bragged of being able to measure precisely to microns which simply isn't necessary in model engineering, especially steam engines. In John's world anything bettter than a gnat's nadger was good enough.

A decent, open and honest man who suffered poor health for years whose presence in the world will be sorely missed.

                    RIP John.

Two who have been good to know, Sir John and Boggy. No punches pulled, tell it like it is. Gets us into trouble at times but consistent and damn good advise.

                        Regards Ian.

I just saw this post .
A couple of years back John helped me with somthing . Later on I was able to return the favour .
We started exchanging emails , at first about model engineering , then about a variety of subjects .
We seemed to be on thesame wavelength
Then he got sick , and the mails became less frequent , until early last year they stopped .
So I suspected the worst .
Now that I've read this post , deep down I already knew , still it's is quite a shock .

                          I miss our conversations .
Altough we never met in person , I considered him a friend .

Always seemed ready to help and give sound advice, he was straight spoken and not afraid to ruffle a few feathers now and then. We exchanged a couple emails but never met which I regret and although I knew he had not been well for a good time was saddened to hear that he has passed away. RIP John.
