      Hi, my wife and I are planning a holiday to Britain next year and SWMBO has agreed to me visiting a ME exhibition while we are there. I'm guessing that Harrogate in May would be nice, does anyone know the dates for 2014 yet?

      Regards, Dave from the Colonies

            It's usually the first full week in May so that makes it 9th, 10th and 11th.

            Won't be before that as May1st is a public holiday.

              Thanks, I'll plan on the first week of May and give Lou an email. I'm getting a bit excited at the idea of visiting the Harrogate show.

              All the best, Dave

                That should read……….. "I'm guessing that Harrogate in May SHOULD be nice"

                Don't be too surprised if it's snowing when you get here in early May, it is not unknown in the North of the UK at that time of year.

                Seriously you will enjoy the show whatever the weather, I have been to all 20 of them and do not intend to miss any in future.

                  David;

                  This colonist and wife made it to Harrogate for a good part of the Saturday this year.

                  If we managed to go again, we'd give it 2 days; maybe not 2 full days, but as the Harrogate show was a last minute addition to our schedule, 3-1/2 hours in an absolutely packed show did not give any of it justice.

                  It would have been nice to actually see the club stands, for instance – we walked through twice but because of the number of people, getting to actually see anything was difficult.

                  Just food for thought – Another JohnS.

                    Hi David,

                    We and two other traders have already booked hotel based on May 9th – 11th

                    Come and say hello

                        In his introduction in this year's programme, Gavin Rex (Exhibition Manager) said "hope to see you all at the same time next year", which suggests May 10,11,12. again, so will probably be the Fri,Sat,Sun nearest those dates. Haven't got a 2014 calendar to check!

                          Thanks for all the good advice, I will probably only get one day so I'll make sure to get there early and make a full day of it. Am I right in assuming the Friday would be the least croweded day?

                          All the best, Dave

                              Dave,

                              As others have commented, Friday is packed out, Saturday a little better, and Sunday is the quietest, but still busy enough, but there is chance to talk to Traders and Club members on the stands.

                              Sunday lets me run about fairly freely in my electric 'chair without being glared at by grumpy old men! And my wife doesn't get pushed out of the way by the same.

                              Might be best to allow 2 days.

                                   Hello David when you go to Harrogate if you call at York they have many places of interest just to name a few.

                                  National Railway Museum, Castle Museum, the Minster, Jorvick and not far away Elvington Air Museum.

                                    Hi David,

                                    Encourage your wife to go to the Turkish Baths for a spa treatment.

                                    There are lots of model engineering widows to be found in there when the exhibition is on. My wife is one of them.wink

                                    Also, she will be less concerned about any money you spend as it will probably be less than she spends.

                                      Thanks for the ideas on how to entertain SWMBO while I sneak away to the exhibition. Using these techinques it may be possible for me to visit for all three days, although it does provoke images of us over-doing-it a bit and having to scrounge through rubish bins to feed ourselves for the remainder of the holiday ; }

                                        I can confirm that the 2014 National Model Engineering & Modelling Exhibition will be taking place at the Harrogate Showground from the 9th to the 11th May '2014'.

                                        See **LINK** for more details.

                                        Look forward to seeing you all there,

In case I don't see everything on the Saturday and want to return again on the Sunday (quite likely), can I buy a ticket at the show for the following day to avoid the queue on Sunday?

                                                    Talking about avoiding queues, last time I travelled up to visit the Harrogate show I ended up in the pouring rain for nearly an hour. This was a few years ago. As I will be on holiday in Yorkshire this year I tried to buy an advance ticket, no such luck. It seems that you can only buy an advance ticket if you can say exactly what day you will visit and you need to have internet connection and a printer to print your ticket!!. Not something I have in my caravan.

                                                    All advance tickets I have bought over the years have been valid for any show day, wonder why Harrogate are different?

                                                      Chris, don't worry about the ticket date although it's not clear on the sale site I took this up with the organiser when this first showed up and was assured that you will still gain entry on any day thus can only assume it's just to give them some indication of the numbers expected on each day even if some of us change our minds .

                                                      regards John
