As no-one has replied to this…….
I make the thickness of each of the firebars 3mm.
Or as a not so good alternative 1/8″ (one-eigth of an inch) if we stick to standard imperial sizes like the rest of the model.
Reasoning:
Length of ‘shaft’ which runs between two outer firebars is 3 7/16″ (three and seven sixteenths inch). Shown top of drawings page 141.
Thirteen spacers 5/32″ thick to be fitted = total thickness 2 1/32″ (two and one thirty-second inch),
Leaves 1 13/32″ (One and thirteen thirty-seconds of an inch), or 35.8mm of the ‘shaft’ to fill with 12 firebars – the two end firebars butt against the ‘shaft’.
12 times 3mm thick firebars fill this almost exactly (0.2mm too bulky).
If each firebar is 1/8″ thick then they occupy 1 1/2″ (one and a half inches) and the firebars are 3/32″ too bulky…. a bit of minimal and judicious thinning of the spacers should fix that!

Phil
