Looking to my next project within the limits of my Warco Mini Lathe for turning the flywheel I have found articles in the Model Engineer magazine for the Cygnet Royal by Edgar Westbury. Castings sold by Hemingways.
I have two issues of the magazine but not the first, Volume 127/ Issue 3193. A search on line hasn’t found anything so I wondered if any one has a copy that they could sell or copy the article for me.

When asking for a particular issue it is probably helpful to include the date. I doubt many people remember which numbers they have but probably have some idea of the years.

VOL 137 is 1970 ! So at a guess 1960 – May have it, or try the archive . Noel.

Well, that’s strange as there are two copies currently listed on ebay!

Cheapest £6 including postage. Item No. 320893385360

The build notes that Hemmingway supply along with the drawings are basically a reprint of the article but a bit pricy compared to a couple of scanned pages.

There is also a 4 part article starting in 4180 of 2002 vintage on building the engine which just comes into the digital archive. I don’t have Vol127.

Looking at the drawing I would be interesting to work out the cost of raw materials compared to buying castings as it could all be made from bar stock with the cylinders being the only items that would need some creative carving out from block if you wanted to stick with a similar outside appearance to castings, a lot easier if you alter the shape to make machining easier.

Volume 127/3193 is September 19962. I had lots of model engineer magazines I inherited from my father but I had to downsize and close up my workshop keeping any I thought may be of interest later.
I have found the drawings on line but I thought the articles would be interesting to read before I decide to buy the castings.

Thanks Phil. I spent most of this afternoon looking so I must have missed them. I have ordered the magazine.
Once I have the drawings, awaiting ink for the printer, I will consider building from stock. The price of castings compared to building from stock is worth thinking about. After a long break from model engineering the price castings was a bit of a shock.
I remember seeing a Cygnet running at a show meany years ago and wondered what it was.
