Does anybody know of a supplier of neat cutting oil, that will supply small quantities at a reasonable price.

All the suppliers I have found so far only supply minimum quantities of 25 litres.

A couple will supply 5 litres at about £30 plus carriage.

The last litre I purchased lasted me 2 years!

          Hi There
Warco do oil in 1 litre containers, at least, they used to.
          regards David

            Hi

They do but will not supply it on its own, without purchasing a machine at the same time.

That would make it a bit too pricey!

            regards

              Hi Keith
              I am sure you have got some cutting oil by now but we sell Ferrofluid in 0.5 litre bottles. You can buy online, no carriage and no minimum order. http://www.drill-service.co.uk regardsGeorgie @import url(http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);

Machine marts is a little bit smelly. It lasts me years, I have a little pot-bellied jar that sits in a tin-lid drip tray with a toothbrush and an old paintbrush. These last a while until I manage to mill off the hairs.

I've got some cora-b from Reeves in 1L as well, but I don't think it is noticeably better, although it looks cleaner.

Tool Station sell a cutting oil for £4.29 a litre…..if £10 is spent, delivery is free. They call it broaching oil and describe it as high performance cutting oil. It works well for me.

Further to the above post, it is in the Automotive section of their catalogue for some strange reason.

Warco now supply cutting oil without you having to buy a machine as well! I got some a few months ago – they said their carrier had now agreed to transport it. I think they do 2 and 4 litres containers from memory.

Your comment re brushes being bereft of bristles made me chuckle. I too have several wooden sticks with a metal ferrule at one end which started life as perfectly serviceable small brushes. Just a drop more cutting fluid towards the end of a cut and then suddenly its a tug-of-war with the mill and a bald brush blush oops. Still it goes with my hair line these days!!

                            Cheers

Just had a look at the Toolstation site but no mention of broaching oil at £4.29 a litre. There is pipe threading oil at £6.63 a litre and tapping and drilling spray at about £3.50 a can. I have used the spray before on aluminium and it worked fine but a spray can does not last long. I may give the pipe threading oil a go for general machining and see if it is worhtwhile. The free carriage is a real plus with Toolstation, they can't make any money on small heavy orders.

If you can find one (yellow pages ?) it's worth checking out any accessible agricultural suppliers – our nearest, TFM near Bridgnorth, stocks Morris Lubricants cutting oil in 5 litre cans at around £14.70.

I'm in South Yorks and am stuck for some cutting oil. I wonder if you could help me out, it doesn't have to be free, anything better than £8 from machine mart would be great 😀

Hello Keith – I use ROTABROACH cutting oil by the litre from Ebay. Its light and doesn't stink when you put a cut on and it doesn't make your clothes stink either. I use it on my mini lathe and it keeps everything from going rusty. I reckon its good stuff and at £7.26 a litre (black bottle) with free postage it goes a long way, my bottle is 18 months old and still half full. I commend it to the house!———Stuart **LINK**

When in industry, I always bought cutting oil and other lubricants from Millers Oils, Brighouse. OK, we were buying some oils in 50 gal drums, but they always supplied me with 1L bottles of oils if I wanted.

Very helpful company, worth a try if you can call in to collect.

For information and for those living North of York, Smith and Allan in Darlington sell soluble cutting oil in 5 litre containers, or larger, over the counter; they may also have the neat version as they are oil blenders.

I have no connection with them other than satisfaction with their products
