I had to saw some nickel silver sheet today, with a piercing saw. It seemed very hard on the blade – as though the saw kerf was being rubbed away. As a result, turning the blade to follow a design became impossible, and the smallest radius I could manage was about 4mm, one side, 10mm the other. The teeth had an obvious shine on the points after about 10mm of cut.

The blade are Bahco, and lube with cutting oil or beeswax seemed to make little difference.

      Is this usual?

      Regards, Tim

'Nickel silver, Mailechort, German silver, Argentan, new silver, nickel brass, albata, alpacca, or electrum is a copper alloy with nickel and often zinc. The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. Nickel silver is named for its silvery appearance, but it contains no elemental silver unless plated.'

            Best regards,

nickel silver should be as easy to cut as brass. ive cut out quite a few lettered cap badges as one off jobs.

suspect Tim's blades are the problem.

              cheers,

Since Nickel-Silver is the subject, does someone know an address for hard rolled sheet of NS with a thickness of 0.30 mm. Niko.
