If its simply cutting to size then a fine toothed hacksaw say 32tpi will do. It can help to sandwich the plate between scraps of ply or MDF to reduce the risk of teh blade catching.

To finish the edge then a decent sharp second cut file will do

What are you making as it will give a better idea of what type of cutting is required.

I use a device called a ‘Goscut’ Basically it comprises a handle/frame with a flat metal rail at the top (horizontal) which has a slot along its length, a blade fits within this slot and the flat material is placed on the top rail and is cut with the blade which hinges from below. Because the rail has two sides the metal is kept flat. I can’t remember the make, was it Eclipse? but I don’t think they are available now. I still pick up the odd one at car boot sales.  Back a bit was the ‘Nibbler’ tool which was popular and widely advertised in ME but I don’t think they are available either. Someone must produce something these days, I just thought a couple of names might give you a lead though.
