I have just submitted a letter to my local paper, by e-post.

As my usual practice for a fairly short document sent by e-post I wrote that in ‘Word’ then copied & pasted it to the end of a short covering note.

I don’t worry about formatting, apart from a few italics. The simpler the better for the recipient to edit (if they decide to use it!). So default Times Roman 12pt, and for paragraphs, CRLF twice.

Copied, pasted: it turned to the standard Ariel the text-message uses.

Then I noticed several words missing, and they all seemed proper nouns. Not all the names in the letter, but about four or five.

I duly typed them in, then looked back at the original, saved but not closed… That was all still fully highlighted. I could not see anything that might think it was a control-code. I don’t recall this effect previously.

Anyone any idea why the words had fallen off somewhere?
