I saw this Myford on a curious stand in a recent auction, I wonder if it was a factory option?

Not a Myford option that I’ve seen but several between wars lathes were supplied on single foot stands. Normally heavy cast iron and probably meant for bolting down.

Not seen that type before and UNLESS bolted down I would be affraid it would topple over. Noel.

Aha! Not the strange stand but my eye was also caught by that tailstock chuck….

I have a couple of what look the same type, with a (Jacobs???) female taper instead of a Morse taper shank. What I take to be the trade-mark rather weakly stamped on the specimen immediately to hand is “Crown”, below a faint, stylised image of the head-gear.

The jaws are not cone segments but consist of two sets of interleaved plates with a Vee-notch in each so they enclose a square.

Are these drill-chucks or tap-holders? Or both?

The drill chuck is just an old style 2-jaw but is a drill chuck. We had a thread on here a while back – several makes including Drummond.

There’s been a couple of threads mentioning them; This is One

I’ve a couple, but they both have jaws more suited to hex or round, though there are versions available designed for square tooling. I’ve not managed to find one yet.

An unusaul stand, topped by what seems to be an early ML4, judged by the flat belt?

One careful owner, pity the subsequent one(s) weren’t

Maybe the new owner will giv eit some love, sold for £65.

                      Hopefully, yes he will!

Thank you for the remarks on the chuck: since the jaws in mine are effectively Vee-blocks they will hold round and square tools.

The stand is intended to be bolted down: the feet have quite visible holes.
