Hi guys has any one got a set of drawing for a small Cracker steam engine that are better than the one’s on the John Tom site as i an struggling with the gears i need to make for the drive.
The 6 drawing are a bit woolly overall, so if anyone has better set i would be grateful.
Yes, I've got a set in jpeg form. Can't remember where they came from now but they seem clear. If you pm me with your email address I'll send them to you.
thanks for the info I can see it now must of had a bad day as being disabled my medication knocks me out and I go into a zone
can you get gear cutters that small or is there any other methods or can you purchase them but I suppose that is the easy way out as I have never cut gears
Kevin if you want to buy – have a look at the Technobots website under steel gears for models. Just a happy customer of theirs.
Yes you can get commercial cutters – certainly for the 40 tooth – CTC Tools have one listed but not for the 10 tooth pinion. I suspect at that tooth number you're into modified form teeth.
HPC have the gears liusted in various materials – what matyerial do you actually need?
Ivan Laws book will give you the information for making the cutters yourself .
Kevin Wheel and pinion cutters are available from firms who supply clockmakers like Meadows and passmore or Cousins The price will make your eyes water
hi Guys this is my Cracker to date after several weeks work I still have some parts to make and making the gears I keep putting it off as I have never made gears before so it will be a challenge.
I have had the oscillating engine working and runs ok
