First time I've bought something there I've found substandard.

      It's a set of 100mm hex-shank screwdiver bits, IAN 373115_2104, £6.99.

I was putting up a plastic curtain rail in the living room, where there's an RSJ lintel. I'd drilled the plaster and the lintel 3,8mm so that I could self-tap the 14-off 4,16 dia woodscrews provided into the steel. When I tried the pozi2 bit, it wouldn't fit, even though my older worn one would, so I used the pozi1 bit.

The point shattered like glass – never seen a screwdriver point do that before.

I went back to my old one to finish the job.

I know their returns/repair service works. Bought a Parkside/Lidl reciprocating saw, 3 year guarantee and 15 months later the blade drive shaft broke. Was a painless email exchange with customer service, they sent me a prepaid postage label and custom slips, UPS collected it from my house and it went off to Germany. Only drawback was it took over a week to get there, informed it was on it's way back a few days later then 10 days for a brand new replacement to arrive a couple of days ago.

Thanks for that. There was a time when I'd've gone through that for a £6.99 item and for all I know there may be again, but for now I'll take the hit and put it down to experience. Ta.

            I would not want even a small angle-grinder with a switch on-lock.

I have had one pull itself of my hands when the disc snagged in the cut. It released itself from the work, or the disc broke, and fell to the ground still running…

Lidl returns are painless..just keep the receipt and take the bits back to checkout on your next shop…you generally get 3yrs to do that so no rush….

Yes it works very well, also seems to annoy the checkout operator and the queue behind you especially with something large (ish)!

While most (not all) Lidl non-food products carry a 3 year warranty, AFAIK the return for refund period is a much shorter than the guarantee period – maybe a month, If you take a faulty item back to store while the product is still on the shelf the store may exchange it, but after that you are into the warranty side of things through Customer Support.

Worthwhile keeping the box as well as the receipt. The last item I had fail (a battery charger) required the end of the box sending in as well as a copy of the receipt. That was only the second item I have had a claim on since Lidl started in the UK & both claims were resolved without dramas.

Local Lidl had inverter welders with a Tig kit for £150 last week – another piece of kit with a 16A mains connector fitted. I was tempted, but resisted (for now).

To be clear UK consumer law does NOT require you to have the original packaging to claim for a faulty item.

Maybe not, but that was what was requested & it was a sight cheaper to post back the box end than send the faulty unit back.

Never asked or said anything about original packaging when I sent the reciprocating saw back and they paid all postage.
