They are great books, I have them both in hardback.

They give an idea when the currency changed, the engine one is 1969 and cost 18 shillings and the boiler one is 1971 and cost £1-25.

I still have a read through them, they are well worn.

        Roy.

When posting links to books, videos, anything, PLEASE say what the target is either in the link itself or in the posting. It is just a common courtesy to avoid people with limited bandwidth or allowance wasting their time on things they have already or don't want.

The first link is to Model stationary and Marine steam engines by K.N.Harris

The second link is to Model boilers and boiler making by K.N.Harris.

I have both these excellent books.

As the links take you directly to the PDF online and not to the download I didn't think it was important, no one was going to waste bandwidth or their time, I made it clear the links were to boilers and engines, when each PDF opens it gives you the titles. I am new to this forum and finding my way round, if I make a mistake its not through my lack of courtesy.

I think are still in copyright despite being posted on the Internet.

I read that both books had been put on microfiche and were available for public access, this happens often when permission is given by the author or authors family, the Gutenberg project is full of such books. I've just done another search and those links are on 4 other forums. I dont know if its possible to find out for sure without applying to the copyright services but obviously I dont want to take a chance, I'll remove the links

I think that went very well, for an encore I might sky dive naked into the girls school up the road……video to follow.

Uhhhhhhh…….. I cant edit my original post ! someone remove it please.

Yes. Isn't it 75 years in the UK. However it is only 50 in Canada.

"The term of copyright for a particular work depends on several factors, including whether it has been published, and, if so, the date of first publication. As a general rule, for works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years. For an anonymous work, a pseudonymous work, or a work made for hire, the copyright endures for a term of 95 years from the year of its first publication or a term of 120 years from the year of its creation, whichever expires first. For works first published prior to 1978, the term will vary depending on several factors."

                      From UK Gov website.

                      Regards,

Doubtless still covered by the author's copyright. It might be legal to make a single complete copy for your own research purposes, as the book has been out of print for years. But to make a copy and post it on the net for millions of others to access, not so much so. Depends if the author or publisher is bothered to pursue the matter though.

I see Amazon has a brand new copy for sale for $531. Wow. Where do they get that from? Used copies available for $29 seem like a veritable bargain.

Andy Ross of Stirling Engine fame lifted the copyright on his book "Making Stirling Engines", anyone interested in Stirling Engines might find this useful.

I see that both of these books have been reprinted and are listed on the TEE Publishing website.

As Hopper says, probably still covered by copyright.

I like a book I can thumb through!

I'm with you there. More than once, I have looked at free downloads of books and if I like it, I go and buy the hardcopy. So in some cases at least the "pirate" copies actually help sell the real deal. So they are not all bad.
