Obviously been there, done that, knows all that is needed to know while there is a good proportion of us that don't!

One comment though the chap in the video has a large mill, climb milling to that radius I don't think I would like to attempt on a smaller mill.

You can use those cheap carbide-tipped router cutters for that job, too. Better not climb-mill, though, unless you're just taking a final finishing cut. I prefer to take it in two or three passes, but then I'm milling in lathe with a vertical slide.

If there is excess backlash in the screw feed the work can still be pulled along even with power feed engaged, however it will only move enough to take up the backlash so you may end up with a jerky movement of the work.

Just watched it and does leave a nice finish. He does state at the beginning that for light mills use conventional cut to within 10 or so thou then climb cut. I do also think that changing the work piece while the motor is still running is a big no no

The other thing I would suggest on a light benchtop mill would be to keep the quill at it's highest setting well within the head rather than fully extended as he was doing.
