Copper Tube Find

Hi all a question i have found a bit of copper tube in my farther in Laws Garage and was interested to know what is was used for as i cannot find any reference to this this size or why my late farther in law had it stored for the last 40 years.

The size is 2" 3/4 OD and is about 1.2 mm and 9 feet long

The key question is is it just scrap and i cash in or is it good to make copper boilers and advertise it in cut lengths'

There is a major question, in your father in law's garage find is the copper tube got a seam running down it if so no good for boiler material. If it ihas this do not sell it for scrap as I am sure that a few of the traction and 7.25g builders will snap your arm off for chimney material. I hate to see good metal going to a scrappy.

Hi Bob i cannot see any seam running down it but in the morning in some good light i will clean a section to have a closer look.

Hi Kevin,

I am currently trying to source a short piece of 2 5/8" dia x 16g copper tube for a boiler. Your tube is 18g thick which is given as an alternative thickness on the drawing I am working to; fine, but for the 1/8" oversize to what I need! Good luck in finding a boiler builder or otherwise who can use it!

That's a good size for small boilers witha single flue from 15mm water pipe.

Just the right size for the Paxman traction 1-1/2 boiler, so with 9 feet you could make your own fleet of the little buggers..

i have cleaned the end of the copper and it has no seams. has anyone got any ideas of cost to sell it as i have no idea all i know copper has a high price.

I just did a bit of googling for "scrap price, copper, uk" and came up with a figure of about £4.75/kg. Might be regional variation and changes day to day or possibly even quicker!

Worth having a bit of a play to see what prices you can find.
