I wish I had one of those small Warco surface grinders. They now cost over £3000. Usually they are out of stock so are not a real temptation but now Warco says 'almost sold out'.

      Why do I want one:

Small morse taper fittings for a cowells. Make 8mm collets. (I have made some without a grinder)

Make thin taper ground sheet for small handsaws. (I don't think taper ground makes much difference in reality)

      Sharpen end mills.

Make parts for folding knives. (I have made some without a grinder)

It might fit in the spare space in my workshop.

I get to learn about surface grinding (this probably the only real reason).

      Why Warco

New – so should work out the box. I imagine a knackerd grinder is more frustrating than a knackered lather.

      Small – it fits.

      Easy delivery – I don't like hassle.

      There is no competition.

You never seem them second hand. I guess they might have quite good resale value (in terms of %, not total amount lost).

I recently had my Warco grinder up for sale on this site but the two replies I got came to nothing so I decided to keep it. I could be persuaded to part with it if you can arrange pick up. It is as new and I don't want to make money from it, so it's competitively priced (you'll be surprised). You have no profile so I don't know where you are. I'm near Doncaster, South Yorkshire. PM me if you could be interested.

          John

P.S. I need to downsize my workshop while I'm still above ground and breathing.

I'm not sure how you make morse hitapers on a surface grinder.

If your machine has the cross-travel you could make some sine centres and drive one end with a dog.

Do you need one for surface finish or sizing. If sizing then have you the measuring kit to accurately measure size and angles.

                    How fit are you ?

Manual surface grinders are a good workout, particularly on larger parts.

                      I don't 'need' one. It's a hobby… just playing.

Agreed. I don’t often use mine – but when needed, it is there.🙂 I now don’t have to bother about the finish on some parts from the mill – particularly fly cutting – if it can be sorted on the surface grinder. Extra time, but it is only a hobby.
