Just an idle though, but I'm hoping to save some space to the rear of my recently acquired (but not yet installed) Boxford type C lathe. I have the under-drive cabinet, but it was modified by the previous owner to suit the lathe which has the rear mounted motor. Easy to modify the cabinet back but what of the lathe itself?

Has anyone changed a rear motor type to under-drive? Is it even possible? A cursory inspection would look like it is not as there doesn't seem anywhere for the belt to go. But did Boxford use different castings for the C and CUD models?

        Thanks,

        Rob

The parts list list 3 different types of headstock. Your 'C' type, what is the drive from the counter shaft to the headstock, single pulley or triple pulley. Perhaps take the top inspection plate off the headstock and look inside to see if the headstock casting will allow the belt to. pass through?

I fear it unlikely. The headstock castings were different.

See here…. http://www.lathes.co.uk/boxford/ in the section "The belt drive lathes"

Might still be worth a try though!

Thanks guys, I don't think it will be possible – or at least, not easily and within my capabilities. It has the triple pulley, and as far as I can tell without some further dismantling, there's nowhere for the front side of the belt to go. The rear side of the belt might just make it though, but that's kind of irrelevant.

Thanks for the input and information. I'll just live with it the way it is.

              Regards,

              Rob
