I have a need for 25 watt 240 Volt SES (E14) based PYGMY fireglow lamps and have been unable to source same so I am contemplating dipping my own. Just need the right lacquer. Anyone help?

You might like to try transparent ceramic lacquer which is usually available in decent artist supply shops. The lacquer is baked on to the ceramic item so is definitely heat resistant.

Hi Kwil – Conrad electrical do bulb paint – here – rather pricey though for doing a couple of bulbs. Your better bet might be to change the lamp holders if possible as it looks as though you can get 25W pygmy and golf ball in red but with a bayonet cap fitting. If you can't change the holders have you got room to put some stage lantern gel material in place so that ordinary clear bulbs could be used?

              Hello KWIL

              http://www.propertyrepairsystems.co.uk

They sell heat resisting paint to well above light bulb temperatures in aerosol cans as well as tins, they might be worth looking at

You didn't say what colour you want but assuming red for a fireglow they make plenty of LED E14 bulbs like this one?

http://www.bltdirect.com/minisun-led-golfball-ses-4w-red-40-watt-alternative (says 40w but the bulb is MiniSun LED Golfball SES 4W Red (20 Watt Alternative).

May be too tall as compared to a pygmy bulb but there are others that may be small enough?

My mum had an electric fire with the fireglow bulbs in it constantly blowing

I thought get her some leds..end of problem

Only trouble is the bulbs act like heaters to make the flicker effect with the spinners so leds no use if you have flicker effect too

These seem to stock the bulbs you want? Unless you've tried them and they are out of stock

                          John,

At £8 for a single lamp (delivered)!

They do not last that long so cheaper bulbs + expensive lacquer is probably cheaper in the long (or indeed ) short run.

                          Clive,

That is better but they are BC base, it might be that I can change the lamp sockets over to BC from SES.

                          Thank you

Yea, not exactly cheap. If they are that hard to source now they can probably charge what they like for them frown

Our gas fire uses pygmy ses fire glow bulbs .Fire is made by Gloworm.

                              Based in Belper I think.
