      Hi

I'm the lucky owner of a Colchester master 2500 1973 mod.

I try and get the 72099-0 CHANGE GEAR INCH 56T.

I thought maybe I could make one myself. Does anyone have the measurements of the gear. with and outer measurements, and depth of the teeth.

      Thanks for all the answers

      Sverre

Welcome to the forum. There seems to be one on ebay, don't know if it is the correct one.

PS Colchester Student change wheels were discussed earlier.

The gear you require surely has to mesh with at least one other gear.

You can find the details of the one you want from the one you have.

The width will be the same as the meshing gear.

If you tell us the number of teeth and outside diameter of the meshing gear, we can calculate the gear specification and tell you the measurements for the one you need as well as the cutter that will produce it.

AS DC31k says, the other gears will tell you what width it needs to be, and the bore and the size of any keyway.

If you measure the OD of a gear withb which the 56T has to mesh, and count the teeth, you will be able to calculate the Diametric Pitch

Knowing the dimensions of the central boss, and having calculated the O D from the 56T and the DP, you can make a gear, as long as you can find out the Pressure Angle.

With all this information, you can buy a gear cutter and, if you have a Dividing Head or a Rotary Table, make your own gear.

If you have not cut a gear before, buy Ivan Law's book "Gears and Gear Cutting"

There are probably websites for owners of lathes like yours (Do read what is on Lathes UK website about your lathe.. It may answer many of your questions.
