A wee bit off topic, during some reading the other day , I found that the Stirling who designed these locos was one of the sons of Robert Stirling of hot air engine fame, you all proberbly knew that, but I did not. Ian S C

        John,

with regards to the Boiler dimension / Wheel dimension, on the LBSC drawings for his 2-4-0 Web Compound "Jeanie Deans", there is a note to dent the boiler locally to clear the Driving Wheels. I don't know if this helps you as your boiler is lower into the Wheels. But may be considered. I would reason if the boiler passes a hydraulic test after the disruption (especially if it were made from drawn tubing, even better if done before silver soldering), I wouldn't think it would be unsafe.

As I near completion of LBSC's Netta (0-8-0), I would really like to embark on a 4-2-2 Stirling in 3-1/2" gauge. But it appears there are no wheels out there ??

          john,

The boiler on Clarksons 3.5" stirling does as Bruce suggested need to be locally "adjusted".

I found this as being required when I built my Stirling but the minimum side play on the drive axle makes the adjustment required small,

Good luck on the build it is a most rewarding model to drive.

          Paul.

            John,

I sent you a message to you a couple of weeks ago about drawings for the 5" gauge stirling single and wondered if you had received it.

I would pleased to receive copies of the drawings and would cover any costs involved.

            Regards Jim Farr

              James,

I have just read your message and will get the drawings copied next week when in Belfast.

They are original "blueprints", and have an incredible amount of detail and dated 1945.

Can you send me an address or phone no. and I will contact you.

              Regards, John.

All, I have just had contact with Blackgates and they have acquired the drawings and patterns for the Clarkson's designs. They now have the Stirling 8' Single 4-2-2 drawings available with castings to come. I am ordering my drawings tomorrow !

Now would be this be for the 3.5"ga version or the 5"ga?
