Clarke CMD300 Milling Drilling Machine

I'm considering buying one of these mills.

Machine mart have a local outlet up the road from me so I can collect it and have it up and running in a hour.

Any reason why I should not purchase one of these mills for light hobby use.

Hi Dave,

The Clarke CMD 300 is a rebranded Sieg X2 Milling/Drilling Machine, I have the same machine with different paint work. I have had it for over a decade and used it for light work, and I still use it even if I have a larger milling machine. I have not had any problem with the controller board or the plastic gears. The Sieg X2P is a better choice in my opinion, but with a higher price tag. It has a fixed column, larger worktable and a brushless DC motor.

Iv been looking at the Chester offerings as well. Does it matter if its a M2 or M3. Is there any preference.

Mt3 would generally be considered better on the 'bigger is better' front but what is your lathe? There could be an advantage in having them the same.

The tilting column is not an advantage. You will never use it even if you did find something to use it for because it was so much trouble to get straight you will never want to upset it.
