To get to the point, my questions are…

How does the start capacitor connect up, should there be a centrifugal switch, or is it in fact a run capacitor that I shall need to buy instead?

Is there a way of telling which wires should connect to where on the motor? I know which wires come from where on the switch so if one of you would be kind enough to tell me how yours is connected (motor block terminal numbers) that would be amazing!

Is the additional NVR switch a superfluous addition from the previous owner? I can't see what purpose it could be for or how it could be wired up.

      Many thanks for any help!

      Will

Hi Martin, I'd really appreciate a copy of those drawings too, thanks!

        Simon,

I have an electrical drawing and parts list supplied by machine mart customer service, if you want copies PM me.

If you Google Clarke CL500M, you should be able to find a parts manual which shows the wiring diagram. (I think that one site will give you the Operating manual, and then other the Parts List. )

You may need to do some circuit tracing but it should get you back on track.

If all else fails, PM me, as I have both on file, and could E mail them.

          Howard

            Hi Howard,

Thanks for your response. I too have copies of those but the wiring diagram makes no sense to me, and I can read electrical drawings!

It just shows the latch switch internals, basically, no other part of the circuit. Plus the terminal codes written on it don't match anything marked on the machine.

Afraid I need something with a bit more accurate detail

              Hi all,

I originally started this thread and completely forgot about it. I did get my lathe running and made my own wiring diagram of how it was wired, I agree with the comments above, I am an Electrical & Control System engineer and read schematics all day long but the one provided lost me. I decided to create a very simplified one of how my Clarke CL500 is wired and hopefully this will help you with yours.

              Hope this helps.

If wires have been cut through, it should not be difficult to ascertain which wires are to be connected (as long as they are of different colours?

Hi guys, thanks for your responses.

Adam, that diagram is a great help and matches what I've found so far with my multimeter

NDIY, alas it isn't quite so easy, the wires are not all different colours, and it's the wiring up itself I'm questioning

I'll post a couple of photos to better explain the predicament…

Hmm, I can't seem able to upload photos from my phone to this. Oh well.

I have 4 wires, I now know where they come from on the switch (which are live or neutral) but don't know what terminal on the motor to connect them to.

There are two additional wires coming out from the top of the motor. I think they should connect to the start capacitor, but there should also be a centrifugal switch?? Is it built inside the motor?

Hope that's clear, thanks again in advance!

I have also just realised there was no terminal numbers on the previous wiring diagram as we can only upload in .jpg format and the resolution was not high enough.

although this isn't a great quality version.

I would send / attach a .pdf but I am not sure how on this forum.

Hi noob here, bit late to the show but I have just removed my switchbox and can tell you exactly how it was wired if you want?

two motor wires essentially go straight to switched mains, the other two appear to be field windings that can reverse polarity through the direction switch.
