Hello thank you for the ad, I have a Clarke CL300M lathe and today the control box failed and can no longer control the speed of the motor, it only goes flat out and the speed control knob does not have any effect.

I have looked this up and there is mention of the MOSFETS, now I am a mechanical engineer and have very little experience of electronics, can they be changed or does the whole circuit board have to be swapped out. Any advice greatly received thanks.

Hi Barry the other fault which can cause this fault is the potentiometer with the knob can be faulty and that needs checking as well. You need someone with electronics skills to check the board and pot. etc you can have a look at the cables to see if any have come loose or solder joints faulty but I would get someone with a bit more information to hsve a look.

Hi there Barry. If you use the search facility on this site, (at the top of the page) you will find whole volumes of posts on the CL300 controls going back for years. If you have no electronics experience, the easiest but most expensive option is to replace the control board, having first established that the motor is OK. The posts list various tests you can perform to establish the nature of the fault.

            Best of luck, Anthony.

@David with ref to the potentiometer I think you may have a point there because for the last couple of weeks I have noticed a slight 'creep' with the chuck when the control switch is in the 'off' position so I am attempting to source one, any advice where to get one would be helpful.

@Anthony, thanks for that I will have a look.

Hi Barry. It's me again. You should be able to get a potentiometer from ArcEuro who have an advert and link at the top right of this page. I have CL300 and the pot has a switch on the back which closes in the stop position. (This is the opposite way round to your normal "volume" control).

If you haven't got a manual, they are available to download from the Clarke website.

                Hope this helps. Anthony
