      Hi

My husband has inherited a Chester MF42B model makers lathe but unfortunately his great-uncle died before he could teach my husband how to use it! I would like to get him a book or manual which will help him learn how to set it up and what settings to adjust but I am clueless! Most of the manuals and books I have seen seem to be for worktop size lathes not freestanding ones – are the basics the same?

any help and suggestions gratefully received!!

I assume it is similar to this latest model? CLICK HERE If you scroll down there is a link to the manual. ( they also do a similar machine fi you need that HERE again with a manual if you scroll down the page.

If you post your location there will probably be someone living nearby who can run through the basics.

                Emily,

As it appears to be a combination lathe/mill, you could do a lot worse than getting your husband one – or both – of the new books by Jason Bellamy and Neil Wyatt,  sold by ArcEurotrade. See the advert just to the right of your original post, Lathework and/or Milling

I'm sure he will find them of immense value. Only downside I can see is that you'll probably get an ARC catalogue included in the parcel and that's where the spending REALLY starts!

                John
